Mustapha Carayol’s future at Lincoln City is expected to be resolved this week.

The Echo understands the transfer-listed winger is being tracked by a League Two club and negotiations over his fee are set to begin.

Lincoln had slapped a £40k price tag on the flying Gambian as they attempted to recoup the initial £10,000 they spent in recruiting him from Torquay last summer.

It is understood they are willing to reduce the fee amid concerns clubs were being put off by their demands.

Carayol still has one year left on his contract and Lincoln fans hoped his blistering speed and skill would be a major asset for them in the Blue Square Bet Premier next season.

But it is understood the winger has ruled out that scenario having expressed a desire to remain in the Football League.

Lincoln fans will certainly be sad to see the winger depart after he quickly became a crowd favourite at the start of last season.

A goal against Rotherham on the opening day highlighted his potential, but in the second half of the season injuries prevented him from maintaining his form.

At the back end of the campaign, he missed the club’s relegation fight due to a niggling hamstring problem.

Such has been the awkwardness of the injury, the Echo understands Carayol, who scored four times in 37 games, has opted to undergo rehabilitation rather than go on holiday.
