Celtic captain Scott Brown has rejected reports linking him with Newcastle United and has insisted that he will remain at Parkhead.

A move to St James’ Park had been speculated as Alan Pardew looks to replace West Ham-bound Kevin Nolan.

Brown told the Daily Record: “I’ve heard all the stuff about Newcastle but I haven’t paid the slightest attention to it.

“I’m captain of Celtic Football Club, why would I even think about going anywhere else?”

Brown has insisted that he wants to help Celtic compete for honours, having seen Rangers win the SPL for the last three seasons.

He continued:

“A few weeks ago I had the privilege of lifting my first piece of silverware since being given the armband 18 months ago.

“I have a hunger to win more trophies as Celtic captain so that I can look back at my time at the club and consider myself to have been a success.”

The player is also looking to sign a new contract with Celtic, further distancing himself from a potential £6 million move to Tyneside.

Brown added: “The club know how I feel and as long as the manager wants me here, then I don’t see a problem getting a new deal worked out.”

He has made 164 appearances for Celtic and scored 15 goals since moving from Hibernian for £4.4m in 2007.
