Supplementary – FTC Students Savour Africell’s Gift

Freetown — Students of the Freetown Teachers College (FTC) have been given the privilege to use their mobile phones to study and share relevant materials with their colleague with ease as Africell mobile company makes a 50% special reduction in its tariff for the students and their lecturers.

The ‘Close User Group’ (CUG) facility unveiled last Friday at the college campus at Jui would help boost education and make it simplier.

Africell’s Corporate Sales Manager, Melisa Smith explained that the CUG facility would allow students of FTC to interact on issues bordering their education. She said the facility only covers students within the campus and their lecturers, adding, “The CUG is not for students in other colleges.”

“The facility will provide a 50% reduction on all tariffs used by students who register with us on campus. If a student leaves the college, he/she will be deactivated from the facility. The CUG facility will be activated immediately a student registers,” she explained.

The company’s Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura said Africell was proud of its record of being the mobile operator that has contributed much more than a fair share of their corporate social responsibility.

“We value people’s empowerment and believe that quality education is the foundation for empowering people. We will continue to provide the best for all our subscribers,” he said.

Delivering a lecture on the topic, “Unlocking Our Potentials”, Mr. Bangura opined that potentials were God endowed abilities, and that they are natural but just need discovery and development.

He maintained that to produce entrepreneurial graduates, university education needs be re-designed to focus on not just awarding academic certificates, but also help students develop hard skills and other intelligences that are relevant for the marketplace.

“To help students unlock their hidden potentials, we have to take the bold step of redefining intelligence to include all those other capabilities that never get tested in traditional school environment,” he noted.
