Kopunovic Talks Up Police Chances

Goran Kopunovic is not bothered by APR’s status as favourites ahead of Sunday’s Peace Cup final, insisting his players ‘will be ready’ regardless.

Despite losing twice to APR in the Primus league this season, the Police Coach insists the tie can go either way.

“They (APR) are a very strong side and are favourites to win the final. They beat us twice in the league but this is a final and we are pumped up for the challenge,” the Serbian said. “The players are motivated and hungry for success. They just can’t wait to play in a final,” the 43-year-old added.

Since Kopunovic’s arrival last year, Police have gone from strength to strength. Besides reaching the Peace Cup final, they are also guaranteed to finish third in the league. The club also produced the league’s top scorer in Meddie Kagere.

It has also been reported that the club is already looking to reinforce its squad ahead of next season. Some of the players who have been linked to the club include Rayon Sport right back Karim Mckenzie, Kiyovu winger Faud Ndayisenga and Amavubi Stars’ left back Abouba Sibomana.

Club president Alphonse Katarebe told this paper that they want to reinforce the club with six new players putting in mind that they will play continental football (Orange Confederation Cup) if they win Sunday’s final.
