Youseff Ezzeedine’s Criminal Appeal Case Stalls

The criminal appeal case involving Youseff Ezzeedine alias ‘Rambo’ against the state was yesterday adjourned to the 23rd of June, 2011 by the Gambia Court of Appeal, presided over by the Justice Joseph Wowo, the president of the said Court of Appeal in Banjul.

The appellant, Youseff Ezzeedine and seven others were earlier on the 15th of July, 2010 sentenced to death by Justice Emmanuel Amadi of the High Court in Banjul for plotting to overthrow the democratically elected government of the Republic of The Gambia, by the use of force and arms contrary to Section 35 of the Criminal Code, Laws of the Republic of The Gambia.

The appellant, Youseff Ezzeedine however filed his motion of appeal separately.

It would be recalled that the said Court of Appeal earlier in April 14, 2011 dismissed the appeal filed by the other seven convicted persons, namely; Lang Tombong Tamba, Omar Bun Mbye, Lamin BO Badjie, Kawsu Camara alias Bombardier, Gibril Ngorr Secka and Abdoulie Joof alias Lie Joof.

Meanwhile during yesterday’s sitting, the matter could not proceed as a result of lack of proper quorum, as Justice J B. Kalaile who is one of the judges at the said Court of Appeal seconded by the Commonwealth, has just finished or concluded his tour of duty in The Gambia. The said appeal was therefore adjourned to the 23rd of June, 2011, so as to enable the court appoint another judge to take Justice Kalaile’s place.
