Zambia: Athletics Youth Coach Lands Scholarship

ZAMBIA Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) youth coach, Sydney Mushipi has secured a one-year scholarship to study at University of Mainz in Germany.

ZAAA communications officer, Davison Mung’ambata said in a statement that Mushipi was scheduled to leave for Germany yesterday.

Mung’ambata said Mushipi’s scholarship has been facilitated by German athletics coach and consultant Ralph Mouchbahani, who was the Berlin 2009 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships organising committee manager.

He said Mushipi was until his departure yesterday the athletics technical coordinator at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka training athletes in the academy and those in the high performance category.

“Sydney Mushipi, a youth chief coach in athletics, leaves today for further studies at Mainz University in Germany. Sydney, who has been on secondment at OYDC, will be out for one year.

Thanks to Ralph Mouchbahani, the consultant who facilitated the move through the Germany Embassy. I would like to thank the Ministry of Defence for providing the return air ticket,” he said.

Mung’ambata said Zambia and athletes in particular would benefit greatly from the knowledge Mushipi would acquire from University of Mainz.
