Assin Foso — A Medical Doctor and Parliamentary Aspirant of Assin North Constituency in the Central Region, Nana Kofi Blankson, has dispelled media publication that suggests that he is a New Patriotic Party (NPP) member who has infiltrated the rank of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Assin North Constituency.

Speaking to The Chronicle in an exclusive interview last Friday, Kofi Blankson said he was a staunch NDC member in the Assin North Constituency and that the executive members could attest to that. He pointed out that it was NDC that offered him scholarship to study abroad as medical doctor, and could not understand the motive of the publication that sought to impugn his reputation and integrity.

He disclosed that his father was an ardent NDC member in the constituency, to the extent that he was once appointed a government appointee to the Assin North District Assembly, which he said is a known fact in the Assin Foso Municipality.

Kofi Blankson told The Chronicle that he is one of the NDC financiers for the 2008 general elections, where he doled out funds to support the then parliamentary candidate of the area, Alex Antwi Bosiako, now Municipal Chief Executive of Assin North.

He therefore wondered why he should now be tagged as NPP member who is being imposed on the party by Kennedy Agyepong, to enable him (Agyepong) to easily retain his seat in the 2012 election. He revealed that one Tetteh Adiko, an executive member of the Assin North NDC, served as the link between him and then candidate Antwi Bosiako during 2008 elections.

According to Kofi Blankson, he has made his intention of contesting the NDC parliamentary primaries known to the Assin North Constituency Executives and, therefore, perceived the publication as calculated attempt by his detractors to dent his image, taking into consideration his popularity among the residents in the constituency.

He said it was naive for anybody to say that Kennedy Agyepong was supporting him with GH¢10,000 to enable him win the NDC primaries, adding that it was an insult to him because, as a medical doctor, he has enough resources for his campaign.
