Nairobi — Sports Commissioner Gordon Oluoch on Monday directed the Kenya National Sports Council to address complaints raised by stakeholders in local lawn tennis, which he said were genuine.
Representatives of several clubs, coaches and former Davis Cup players had called on the Minister for Sports, Dr Paul Otuoma, to dissolve the Kenya Lawn Tennis Association council and institute a management committee to review the constitution and call an all-inclusive election.
They asked the government should halt the June 25 to July 9 KLTA elections, citing lack of a level playing ground.
They charged that the council ceased to operate eight months ago after all but three officials quit office.
Standards have been on a slump
“They cannot purport to be running the show yet the standards have been on a slump,” said the communiqué issued after a meeting at Nairobi Railway Club.
Sadili Oval director Liz Odera, who attended the meeting, said selection of national teams, tournaments and other activities are taking place without members’ consent.
The polls and submission of accounts fell due in April.
