Arthur Blick Jr underlined his supremacy on the National Motocross Championship after emerging winner of the MX1 class at Garuga yesterday.

The veteran rider, going for his third national title in a row and ninth in total, won two out of three heats with 17-year-old Maxime Van Pee winning the other.

However, it was not plain sailing for Blick, riding a Kawasaki 2010 model bike as he had to use all his experience to outmanoeuvre Van Pee, who was leading in all the three heats. “The victory was not easy to get. Maxime was on top but maybe my experience carried the day. We are going to miss Maxime for the remaining part of the season,” Blick told Daily Monitor.

Blick also walked away with Shs1m while Asaf Natan had to wash the top two finishers’ bikes after he finished third.

Van Pee, who kept the crowd on their toes through the races, was equally delighted with his show.

“I want to thank all my fans who gave me support and cheered me throughout. Unfortunately, I could not emerge the overall winner.

“But I am happy with my performance and will be back for the East Africa MX Challenge in September,” he said. Van Pee leaves for UK on Saturday for further studies.

The battle in the 50cc and 65cc is developing into an affair of two families – the Blicks versus the Ali Omars.

Wazir Omar on his new KTM 2011 model, emerged winner in the 50cc class, relegating Paddy Blick to third place. Fortune Sentamu was second. However, Paddy retains the championship lead with 276 pts, one ahead of Wazir.

The fortunes were reversed in the 65cc as Alistair Blick, going for his fourth national title in a row, came first with Ali Omar second.

Ali retains the overall lead in the class with 276 pts, 44 ahead of Alistair. International Air Ambulance, Fotogenix, UAP insurance, CBSFM and FASAL sponsored the event. The fifth round is set for Busiika on July 24.
