In a speech delivered as part of celebrations to mark the African Union Day, the World Bank Vice President for the Africa Region, Obiageli Ezekwesili told investors and African ambassadors in Washington DC that even though Africa is open for business, it is not open to just any business. “Africa does not need the irresponsible investments that have for many decades unleashed corruption and degrading conditions upon those they claim to serve”, Ezekwesili said.

Residents of Alapata area of Ofatedo and Iba town in Osun State have appealed to the police to intensify surveillance in the two communities.

A statement by the residents of Alapata, on Monday, in Osogbo, said robbers stormed the area in the early hours of Monday and broke into houses.

Another statement signed by a resident of Iba, Mr. Gbola Gbolagunte, said armed robbers overran the town on Sunday night, stealing cars and other valuables.

According to both statements, robbers who unleashed terrors on residents for several hours were not confronted by the police.

The private residence of the traditional ruler of Iba, Oba Adediji Bamigbade, was also ransacked by the rampaging robbers.

The Divisional Police Officer, Ikirun, Mr. Michael Dahunsi, said his division had transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo, and that some arrests had been made.
