West Bromwich Albion captain Chris Brunt is backing midfielder Graham Dorrans to hit his best form next season after enduring a poor first campaign in the Premier League last year.

Dorrans was a star performer in the Baggies’ promotion season in 2009/2010, scoring 18 goals from midfield.

He was named Championship player of the year but struggled for form last season and his campaign was curtailed by injury.

Brunt believes his team-mate will be a star for the team again after getting himself fully fit.

He told the club’s official website: “Last season was a massive disappointment for him on the back of the previous season when he did so well.

“He wanted to kick on and prove himself in the Premier League every week.

“He’s just got back training so hopefully his injury problems are behind him and he’ll be ready to go next season.

“I’m sure he’ll deal with it and come back next season and hopefully get back to the form he showed in the Championship.”

Brunt believes it was just bad luck that Dorrans got injured and he will have to draw a line under last season and start afresh.

He added: “He just needs to write last season off and comeback next season.

“Football has a habit of doing of doing that when you’re doing well – it sets you back.”
