Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Javier Hernandez has the ability and drive to fire himself into the Old Trafford history books.
The Mexican front-man has been a revelation in his first season in England since signing from homeland club Chivas Guadalajara last summer, scoring 20 goals in all competitions for United despite often starting from the bench.
Hernandez’s goals played a key role in United winning a record 19th league title and reaching a third Champions League final in four seasons, and the 23-year-old’s contribution was recognised by the club’s fans, who voted him as their Player of the Year.
In addition to his lethal touch in front of goal, Hernandez has also been praised by both Sir Alex Ferguson and several of his team-mates for his modest attitude and desire to improve.
Ferdinand is equally impressed with the young Mexican, and believes if he carries on progressing at his current rate of improvement, the sky is the limit for what he can achieve.
In an interview with talkSPORT, he said: “Chico is a natural born goalscorer and a fantastic young professional.
“He’ll put his name in the history books for Manchester United – he’s got the desire to be a top, top player.”
