Southern Africa Report (Johannesburg) 9 June 2011 King Mswati III is due in Pretoria next week to plead directly with President Jacob Zuma for a R10-billion (US$1,47-billion) loan to keep Swaziland from complete collapse. South Africa is Mswati's last hope. As pressure mounts from pro-democracy formations in Africa's last absolute monarchy, both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have in the past month declined to provide the short-term funds necessary to keep Swaziland going.

Statement of U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton on the death of Harun Fazul:

Harun Fazul’s death is a significant blow to Al Qaeda, its extremist allies, and its operations in East Africa.

It is a just end for a terrorist who brought so much death and pain to so many innocents in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, and elsewhere – Tanzanians, Kenyans, Somalis, others in the region, and our own embassy personnel.
