The National Think Tank, a non-partisan, capacity building forum for thematic research, in collaboration with the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Strategy, is organizing a round table conference designed to chart an agenda for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the fourth elected civilian president of Nigeria.
According to a statement by Dele Agekameh, National Director, Media/Public Affairs, National Think-Tank, the theme of the conference is: “A Strategy to A Vibrant Nigeria.” The event is scheduled to take off at the Transcorp/Hilton Hotel, Abuja on Monday June 13, 2011.
Participants at the conference, Agekameh said, will be expected to brainstorm on ideas and ways to galvanise the President towards the implementation of his transformation programme for the country.
“In particular terms, the roundtable’s agenda has been planned to help provide a strategic blue-print for President Jonathan that will tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges in such areas as Power, Health, Efficient and Affordable Public Transport System, Agriculture, Education and Youth Employment through Public Private Partnership, among others”, the group stated.
Also, the conference will discuss how the President can secure Inter-governmental collaboration between various arms of government, MDAs, International Development Partners, and so improve overall governmental stability designed to tackle official corruption and administrative incompetence.
Furthermore, the conference will serve as an avenue to help proffer ways for Mr. President to re-create Nigeria’s growing political consciousness of developmental transformation by stemming distractions that could undermine National Security.
Proposals and recommendations made at the conference will be presented to the presidency with the hope that they will form a part of the policies and programmes which the president intends to implement in order to better the lot of Nigerians.
Moreover, the conference is intended to serve as an avenue for promoting better socio-political cooperation between stakeholders in Nigeria. This is because the conference would be an opportunity for strategic stakeholders in the country to embark on a sound agenda for a truly democratic, economically vibrant political system that is set to usher the country further towards its cherished democratic ideals.
Participants at the conference, the statement stated, will include technocrats from Nigeria and abroad as well as other highly-placed Nigerians in the private and public sector of the economy.
“A strong delegation from the Community Defence Law Foundation and the US-based All Nigeria American Congress (ANAC) will also attend the Conference”, the group further said.
