Port Harcourt – Kidnappers of the five members of the National Youth Service Corps in Omademe in Ikwerre Local Government of Rivers State have demanded for N100 million ransom to effect the release of the corpers.

The corps members , four women and a man,  were seized on Tuesday while returning  to  base  after an inspection of their community project within in the area.

Vanguard gathered that the brigands had established contact with the families of the young man and women who are on national service.

It was also learnt that the captors had spoken to top officials of the NYSC in the state.

A source who did not want his name in print disclosed that the kidnappers  demanded  N20 million for each of their victims.

“The kidnappers have called and they are asking for N100 million as ransom. They are saying that N20 million would be paid for each corps member.

“Today, some of the NYSC staffers have been working round-the-clock to make sure that they are released promptly and unhurt”.

But the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Esther Chimele-Wogbo, said the kidnappers did not contact any of the scheme’s employees, stating that the brigands may have established contact with the families of the corpers.

“I cannot confirm if they are asking for ransom because we are yet to establish contact with them. They (kidnappers) did not call any NYSC employee. I believe they may have called the families of the members,” She said.
