Committee Summons Top Paralympic Athletes for Pan-African Games

9 June 2011 Luanda — The athletes that last April conquered five medals, including two gold, in the Turkey world cup for the visually impaired, are the highlights of the pre-team summoned by the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA), for the Pan-African Games scheduled for 3-18 September, in Maputo, Mozambique.

Luanda — The athletes that last April conquered five medals, including two gold, in the Turkey world cup for the visually impaired, are the highlights of the pre-team summoned by the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA), for the Pan-African Games scheduled for 3-18 September, in Maputo, Mozambique.

The called up athletes are José Armando Sayovo, who won two gold medals and one silver in Turkey, Octávio dos Santos (two bronze medals at that event), Miguel Francisco e Joaquim Manuel.

The pre-team, made up of 25 athletes of various disabled categories, include other top names of the country’s paralympic athletics, such as Maria da Silva (gold medal at the 2008 CPLP games, Esperança Gicasso and Cândido Ngunza Cândido (both have competed in international events) and Silvestre Tchissingue (national champions in T46 category).

The team will be working in Luanda until 08 August, and then 13 final athletes will be chosen for the Pan-African Games, who will then embark on a training programme in South Africa.
