The Katsina State chapter of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and its four Assembly members have disagreed over the choice of the party’s minority leader in the state House of Assembly.

Daily trust gathered that the disagreement forced the Speaker, Ya’u Umar Gwajo Gwajo, to suspend the announcement of the minority leader during the inauguration and election of the leadership of the house last Monday during which he was quoted as saying, “there is little problem which has not been sorted out in the choice of minority leadership.”

It was gathered that the party has chosen Dalhatu Shehu from Faskari constituency as minority leader as against the members preferred choice, Abdullahi Mahuta, who was alloted deputy minority leader while the other two were given minority whip and deputy respectively.

Checks revealed that, just before the inauguration the speaker summoned the opposition party members to inform them of a letter purportedly written to him by the leadership of the party allocating various positions of the house.

The CPC members however disagreed with the party’s choice and asked the speaker not to announce their leadership insisting that the House rules and the Constitution has given them the prerogative to choose who they want to lead them even as some of them have already expressed interest.

One of the members who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity expressed shock at the party’s decision to unilaterally choose a leader for them without at least consulting them knowing fully that they have the constitutional right to choose amongst themselves.
