BENIN-AHEAD the June 12 anniversary celebration, former Director General of the Center for Democratic Studies, CDS, Prof. Omo Omoruyi, weekend, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to set up a committee of political scientists and other stakeholders with a view to “fundamentally” restructure the political order in the country.
Omo Omoruyi who spoke during a Thanks Giving service to celebrate his 73rd birthday in Benin City, said it is only through such a committee that the issue of June 12, 1993 election would be discussed and be buried “ for life”.
According to him, “the annulment of June 12, 1993 election still remains a very sore point for some of us. I still believe that those who contributed to that annulment today get them out and shoot them. When I see some of them talking on the television, I feel like breaking the television myself. Nigerians should spend that day reflecting. People must find out why democracy eluded us in June 12, 1993.
“Jonathan needs to put together a committee of political scientists to fundamentally restructure the political order. This political order must be restructured. That still remains an unresolved issue. Why should somebody say it is the turn of this people or this people. It is sad. Because one of the things June 12 solved was that two people were voted in and no body cared about where they come from. All these things you are reading about zoning is part of the hang over of the annulment.
