Patrice Evra has conceded he was below par despite helping Manchester United win their record 19^th title last season.

The France left-back admitted he will need to improve next season if he is going to be a regular at Old Trafford in years to come. The 30-year-old faces stiff competition next season with Fabio Da Silva’s emergence from the reserves to become an established first team player.

“This was not my best season,” Evra told Inside United magazine.

“I can say that. I can be honest with myself.

“I missed pre-season and only had a week’s training before I played my first game. People forget that.

“Some of the other players had about five weeks’ training working on their fitness and played some friendly games.

“Although I trained during my holiday, having only one week’s training meant it was difficult at the beginning of the season.

“In the middle and towards the end, I felt back to my best but I need to do much better next season.”

The Manchester United defender has also said how the defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates was the turning point in the season.

“After we lost at Arsenal he Sir Alex Ferguson asked everyone whether or not they wanted to win the 19th league title and break the record? ‘How many opportunities are you going to miss?’ he Ferguson said. ‘You’re going to regret it if you don’t win it’,” said Evra

“I was so pleased we got the point we needed at Blackburn, because if we hadn’t I think we would have got the hairdryer!” he added.

The former Monaco player is likely to be joined at Old Trafford next season by Phil Jones who is expected to complete his medical in the next 24 hours. Aston Villa winger Ashley Young is being hotly tipped to follow Jones at some point next week.
