A youth group of the National Democratic Congress, Add My Votes Campaign Volunteers, is calling on the camps of President John Mills and Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, to stop the acrimonious campaigning ahead of the party’s Presidential primaries in July.
The group says the victory of the NDC in the 2012 General elections, is dependent on party unity.
To this end, it is organising a Peace and Unity March of all members of the party on Friday June 10, from the Holy Gardens, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra.
The Group says it will later call on President Mills, Former President Rawlings, and National executives of the party.
Spokesperson for the group, Selasie Ansah told Citi News, the party’s youth cannot sit unconcerned whiles the party crumbles.
“Recent happenings in our party have given us cause to worry. If we fail to treat each other with respect, the corresponding results shall be regrettable in the 2012 general election. And we must not allow this to happen. It appears we are so polarized over issues we could avoid or in a worse scenario deal with them internally. We passionately call on all true and loyal NDC members to oppose those who are sowing seeds of discord between our Founder and the President”.
“To this extent, Add My Votes Campaign Volunteers and its partners and all other groups committed to peace, unity and cohesion in the NDC, call on all supporters of the party across the country to join us on Friday for the Peace, Unity and Cohesion march. We wish peace and unity for our great party” he noted.
Another youth group of the NDC recently embarked on a similar mission.
Numbering over 300, the youth from all parts of the country besieged the Castle, Osu on Tuesday May 31, to plead with President Mills to initiate moves to bring about a thawing of the cold relation between him and Former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The youth, who wore party T- shirts with the inscription “NDC Unity Now”, said the continued bad blood between the two leading men of the party was dividing the party and hurting its chances in the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
They fell to their knees in unison immediately they saw the President and began passionately beseeching Prof Mills to let bygones be bygones.
The President spoke for a little over a minute with them before heading to the Eastern region.
The group then moved to the office of former president Jerry Rawlings where his representative assured them of an action on their plea.
