The confusion surrounding the final standing of the Ghana Premier League looks to have sorted itself out after clubs involved in appeals withdrew their interest.
Two of the interested parties in the pending appeal before the Appeal’s Committee, King Faisal and Mighty Jets, have withdrawn their interest in the case following developments last Sunday.
Indeed, the outcome of the appeal filed by Ashgold was tied to the survival of the two clubs, and the Professional League Board(PLB) last Sunday had insisted that it wanted all outstanding cases to be cleared first before it would make its final determination on which club was relegated to the soccer wilderness.
But Vincent Sowah Odotei, CEO of King Faisal, who initially cautioned the FA about the oustanding appeal says his club has relinquished its interest in the case following the decision to go ahead with last Sunday’s game.
“We are no longer interested in the case because Faisal have accepted its status as a relegated side and we are meeting with Alhaji Gruzah, the president of the club, to decide on the next direction of the club”, he told the Graphic Sports in Accra.
“The relegation of Faisal is what some people in the current FA had prayed for and have employed all manner of schemes to make it a reality. I guess they are now happy”, he added.
Mighty Jets who were the subject of condemnation following the decision to uphold their protest against Ashgold for using the wrong strips in their game at Akossombo are similarly not amused by the outcome of the appeal on the matter filed by the miners.
According to Jordan Anagbla, CEO of Mighty Jets, even though they stand by their claims, they have nothing to lose if the decision does not go in their favour.
“Jets have survived relegation and we do not want to think about the case at the Appeals Committee. We are rather spending the time to reflect on our performance in the just-ended season and prepare for the challenge ahead” he stated.
The Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association seems to have very little trouble at hand in the final determination of who gets relegated to the soccer wilderness next season.
The appeal was filed by Ashantigold last week against a decision by the Disciplinary Committee of the FA to deduct three points and three goals from their accumulated points, and their CEO, Kudjoe Fianoo, threatened that the club will withdraw from the competition if the decision was not reversed.
