A witness, who said the battle began at 4:12 am, said the suspects stormed a house in the area to steal a Toyota car with registration number AV 356 RSH, when a neighbour raised an alarm.
According to the witness, two of the suspects had succeeded in rolling the vehicle from the compound and when an alarm was raised, they shot into the air to scare residents of the area.
“Policemen stationed at a roundabout rushed to the scene and engaged the robbers in a battle, which lead to the arrest of one, who had a local made pistol,” he said.
When contacted, Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Sani Umar Paiko, confirmed the robbery incident and said one of the robbers was arrested with a local pistol and live cartridge, while his accomplice escaped.
He said the suspect will be transferred to the FCT Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper investigation, while the police are on the trail of the fleeing suspect.
The DPO further disclosed that two suspected thieves were also arrested last Thursday for breaking into a supermarket to steal valuables, adding that the suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged to court soon.
