Bizman accused of threatening woman over relationship

A 30-year-old business man was on Friday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly threatening to deal with a woman, Aladegbami Oluwatoyin, if she fails to cultivate a relationship with him.

Ayatu Abdulrahman of Asokoro, Abuja, was charged with criminal trespass, intimidation and enticement, offences contrary to Sections 348, 379 and 389 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Philips Akogwu stated in court that on June 2, the nominal complainant reported at Asokoro Police Station that since 2004, she noticed that somebody usually knocks on her door and window whenever she tries to sleep at night.

The prosecutor said the complainant discovered in April 2011 that it was the accused intimidating her and had on several occasions sent intimidating text messages vowing to deal with her should she fail to enter into a relationship with him.

He said police investigation into the matter revealed that the accused actually threatened to kill the complainant if she fails to go out with him, adding that the accused used MTN phone number:   +2347037562376 to carry out the threats.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor asked the court for a hearing date.

Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted the accused bail in the sum N100, 000 with a reliable surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned to June 7 for hearing.
