Luanda — Technicians from the state-owned oil company Sonangol and partners are conducting since September last year a survey of the flora and fauna of the northern Cabinda Province, aiming at giving its contribution to their protection and conservation.

According to Sonangol’s environmental issues technician, Maria Ndembo, who spoke to ANGOP on Monday, the project that is called “State of biodiversity in Cabinda Province” will be concluded this year with the publication of a scientific book, in which one will find details regarding the flora and fauna of that region of the country, as well as the ways to preserve them.

The official said that Sonangol continues to invest and work to mitigate the risks of environmental pollution, among other measures.

In the framework of the adoption of several international norms, said the source, Sonangol intends to bring to the public, with this project, knowledge related to biodiversity in Cabinda.

“It is a contribution from Sonangol to society and, above all, to the companies that might want to invest in Cabinda Province, which will be able to know the procedure to avoid negative impact on the environment” Maria Ndembo revealed.

She added that a lot of work will have to be done on the protection of biodiversity in general, also advocating the need to disseminate knowledge, especially in rural communities, and getting involved in various actions for the defence of the Angolan fauna and flora.

Cabinda is a province that is rich in natural landscapes, fauna and flora, which includes a big and dense rainforest.
