Peter Crouch has admitted he will decide on his England future after the summer following another snub from coach Fabio Capello.
The Spurs striker was not named in the matchday squad for Saturday’s Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland despite a number of other strikers, such as Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe, being unavailable for the game.
Aston Villa frontman Darren Bent was selected as a lone striker for the 2-2 draw against the Swiss at Wembley, while Bobby Zamora of Fulham was named on the substitutes’ bench ahead of Crouch, who took his place in the stands.
Reports after the match suggested Crouch was ready to quit the international scene for as long as Capello was in charge of the national side, but the 30-year-old is eager to wait before deciding his future.
Speaking about not making the squad on Saturday, he told Sky Sports: “I was disappointed, of course.
“I will have to think about things over the summer – I don’t want to make any stupid decisions.
“It is still fresh in my mind and I don’t want to rush into anything silly.
“I have got the summer now, I can take a break, get away from football for a bit and see how I feel about things in pre-season.”
Crouch has an impressive record at international level, with 22 goals in 42 games for his country.
