Brazilian goalkeeper Doni is on the verge of securing a move to Liverpool, according to the player’s agent.

The Anfield club are in talks with current club Roma in a bid to bring the 31-year-old goalkeeper to the Premier League as cover for Pepe Reina.

Kenny Dalglish is eager to add depth and competition to his squad and recently missed out on goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who elected to join Tottenham from Aston Villa.

Doni has been unable to maintain a starting slot in Rome of late and the Italian side are now ready to sell him.

The player’s agent, Ovidio Colucci, has confirmed the player would be interested in a move to Liverpool.

He told Sky Sports: “I spoke to the club yesterday and they confirmed they are holding talks with Liverpool to reach an agreement regarding the transfer of Doni.

“Once an agreement is reached betwen the two clubs, we will begin negotiating personal terms with Liverpool.

“Doni would be very happy to join Liverpool and play in the Premier League.”

The keeper made 16 Serie A appearances last season as the Italian side finished sixth in the table.
