Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa has expressed interest in playing in England, and in particular for Manchester United.

The 22-year-old, who enjoyed a stellar start to his career with the Bundesliga side before injury curtailed his season, told Nikkan Sports that he would be open to an approach from the Premier League champions who are understood to have sent scouts to watch him.

“If I get a formal offer, I will be strongly interested in listening to what they have to say,” said Kagawa.

“The Premier League is one of the leagues where I want to challenge myself. If it is Manchester United, I’ll be more eager still to go and see what I can do there.”

It is reported that United will ensure that Kagawa is constantly monitored by a team of scouts over the first part of next season wth Dortmund, with an eye to a transfer during the winter window.

Schalke’s Atsuto Uchida, who met Manchester United recently in the Uefa Champions League semi-finals, thinks that a transfer to Old Trafford would be a good move for Kagawa.

According to Kyodo News, the Samurai Blue stopper commented: “Kagawa would make the grade at Manchester United.”
