BETUEL ‘Tyson’ Uushona and Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda will be the main attractions when they vie for their respective titles at the Windhoek Country Club on June 11.
Uushona is set to fight Pater Owoch from Kenya for the vacant WBO welterweight Africa title while his compatriot Ambunda will defend his WBO bantamweight Africa title against Norfat Emilio, also from Kenya.
Welterweight Uushona relinquished the WBO title after suffering his first defeat as a professional at the hands of Briton Danton Vassel in a fight for the Commonwealth belt in March.
However he now has the chance to exert his dominance as one of the best in his weight class on the African continent and regain his world rating. Ambunda has fully recovered from a hand injury that has kept him out of the ring for nearly six months. He will be making his fifth title defence.
Fight promoter Nestor Sunshine Tobias described the event as “a world class card” and deserving the nations full support. The fight is co-sponsored by Salute Trading and Uushona’s main backer Telecom Namibia.
“A few years ago these guys use to fight as undercards in Hitman’s (Moses) fights but now they can be the main bouts,” Tobias said.
“These boys are world class. They have been working hard. We need to support them.”
The evening’s other highlights include a lightweight bout between Namibia’s Julius Indongo and compatriot Peter Malakia for the national title.
The promising Immanuel Naindjala has a date with Sipho Nkadimeng from South Africa in a non-title fight over eight round.
Sakaria Lukas is set to face compatriot Elikana Kalenga in featherweight fight over four rounds, while the welterweight Anthony Jarman will look to make it five wins out of the same number of bouts when he squares off against Thomas Shangula, who will be making his professional debut in another four rounder.
In a catchweight four rounder, Lazarus Namalambo will take on Daniel Hosea as lightweight Johannes Shimbi fights Sam Kambonde over four rounds.
Tickets to the fight cost N$200.
In the meantime, Tobias said the names of the winners in the ‘Hitman Hits Back’ competition for the past two weeks will be made public on Monday.
