Lubango — The holding of the 29th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Forum of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) in Angola on 5-12 June in Lubango city is considered as very important for the establishment of the regional parliament.
This was said to Angop on Sunday by a member of the Forum Executive Committee, Alice Dombolo Chivaca.
According to her, this meeting will enable the establishment of SADC parliament, an issue which has been discussed since 2004.
She said that the theme on “Creation of the regional parlaiment” will top the event.
The SADC Parliamentary Forum was established on September 8, 1997, during the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Windhoek, Namibia.
The meeting will bring together SADC countries’ MP to discuss parliamentary cooperation.
It will also seek to reinforce the SADC execution capacity through the participation of MPs in the activities of the organisation. It is intended to be a forum for discussion of matters of interest to the member countries and facilitate the implementation of regional policies and projects.
