Sunderland midfielder Stephane Sessegnon has promised to pay Sunderland back in effort for the £6 million they handed Paris St Germain for his services.

The Beninese international has admitted the price tag brought with it a certain pressure, but that he will do his best to try and live up to it.

“Yes the price brought pressure, but it’s a positive pressure,” he told Sunderland’s official website.

“It’s true, the club have made a great financial effort to get me to come here and so I owe the club.

“When you are bought at that price, of course you can’t disappoint, you’ve got to show that you deserved that price.

“It’s a satisfaction to know I was bought for six million euros and now I have to show that the club was right to do so.”

In his short stint at the club – having arrived in January – the midfielder has already impressed, and believes he is suited to the style of play in England.

“It’s true that I’m not very tall so I try to make the most of my size, and it’s true that I am physically strong, so I try to play to my strengths with a lot energy, power and speed,” he said.

“I think that can be an attribute in the Premier League as there is so much contact. In certain moments you need to be strong.”
