The festering crisis in the nation’s football is taking a dangerous dimension as the Interim Committee of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) yesterday resolved to write financial institutions in the country to stop them from entering into any deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Describing the NFFA as an illegal body that cannot enter into dealings on behalf of the nation’s football, the NFA said it would also write the nation’s apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to investigate all banks that had deals with the NFF.

The decisions which were taken at the Executive Committee meeting of the NFA in Abuja, also called on the National Sports Commission (NSC) to henceforth stop funding the activities of the illegal NFF since that will contravene the laws of the land.

“We shall officially write all financial institutions in the country not to continue to deal with the NFF because by any law of the land, they do not have a legal personality that can sue or be sued and as a result do not qualify to have such banking or other dealings.

“We also resolved to write to the Governor of the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) to investigate all the banks that had dealings with the NFF on how the illegal NFF met the requirements to undertake banking relations since they do not have such legal documents that would have qualified them in the first instance”, it stated.

The NFA also condemn the attack on its First Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Gara-Gombe, at the Nigeria-Argentina match in Abuja by one of Alhaji Aminu Maigari’s aide, Tunde Aderibigbe, saying the matter has already been reported to the police for investigation and prosecution.
