Orkula Shaagee 3 June 2011 The festering crisis in the nation's football is taking a dangerous dimension as the Interim Committee of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) yesterday resolved to write financial institutions in the country to stop them from entering into any deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Describing the NFFA as an illegal body that cannot enter into dealings on behalf of the nation's football, the NFA said it would also write the nation's apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to investigate all banks that had deals with the NFF. The decisions which were taken at the Executive Committee meeting of the NFA in Abuja, also called on the National Sports Commission (NSC) to henceforth stop funding the activities of the illegal NFF since that will contravene the laws of the land

Super Eagles forward, Ikechukwu Uche, has declared that he and his teammates will turn their concentration to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying against their Ethiopian counterparts billed to hold this Sunday in Addis Ababa.

Nigeria defeated their Argentine counterparts in an international friendly match on Wednesday in Abuja by 4-1. Uche got two goals while Obinna Nsofor and Emannuel Emenike scored one each before Mauro Boselli grabbed the consolation for the South Americans from the spot in stoppage time.

The striker, who was named Most Valuable Player after the game, said winning the warm-up game before the trip to Addis Ababa will be a boost for the Super Eagles.

“It is good we won,” said the Real Zaragoza man. “It will give us confidence going into the game against Ethiopia.”

The 27-year-old striker added that getting an early goal against the Argentines was the key to winning the encounter.

But the petite striker refused to take all the accolades and credited his teammates for their assists.

“I am happy that I scored. But it wasn’t just about me. The team played well and worked hard so that I scored. I wouldn’t mind if another teammate scores while I assist. And it was the early goal that really gave us that confidence to settle in and play well.

“For me, I just want to see this team win even if it means I don’t score. I want to contribute to the success of the team so that we will win.

Being the MVP is good and I have won it because of the hard work by my colleagues,” said the former Getafe attacker.

The two goals against Argentina on Wednesday increased the total goals scored by Uche in Nigeria’s colours so far to 10.
