Abuja — Football fans in the FCT say the Super Eagles team still need some improvement in spite of beating the Argentine senior national football 4-1 in a friendly international in Abuja

A cross-section of the fans in Abuja however said the Super Eagles’ victory is a feat that should be maintained.

They based their submission on their contention that the players lived up to all expectations and only need to continue improving on their game to be able to maintain the success.

Mr Martins Igbokwe, a football enthusiast, described the Eagles’ performance as ” fantastic to the level of even disgracing the Argentines on the pitch of play”.

He said the Eagles really gave in their best as they were able to maintain a high standard irrespective of the players the Argentines brought.

“The standard was high, their performance was fantastic and they played very well.

“In fact, I believe they would have still beaten the Argentine team if they had brought their first eleven because the boys were determined,” Igbokwe said.

Mr Gbenga Aremu, an artist, however urged the Eagles not to see themselves as having attained the level of a world football superpower with the victory over the Argentines.

He called on the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to continue to organise Grade ‘A’ friendly matches to be able to improve the players’ fitness level and readiness for competitions.

Aremu however called on Nigerian football administrators to ensure an improvement in the country’s football league so as to enhance the development of some new talented players.

He said the development of the local league would create an avenue for employment among the youths.

Mr Karaki Eliu, a corps member, called on the team’s head coach, Samson Siasia, to re-build the team’s midfield to correct some lapses that need urgent attention.

He said the team now has some level of discipline and seriousness expected of the national team, praising coach Siasia for the develpment.

“The team will gradually move up in the international ratings if it continues with the same spirit,” Eliu said.

Mr Agujih Fidelix, an applicant, however called on the NFA to allow Siasia do his job in the national team without any interference.

“Siasia should also not allow anybody to impose players on him at all,” he said.
