The Welshman left his post at the west London outfit on Thursday after a successful season with the Cottagers, guiding them to eighth in the league and a place in the Europa League, in his first campaign with the club. Following his surprise move, Hughes was immediately tipped to take the vacant manager role at Aston Villa, but such talk was quickly rubbished by the Midlands outfit

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, says the ruling party can only retain political power in 2012 by winning the elections in the first round.

He observed that it would be extremely difficult for the party to retain power if they fail to secure victory in the first round and allow the polls to go into the second round.

Mr. Adams said the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, is the perfect choice to ensure the NDC grabs the all important first round victory in the impending polls.

He explained that this observation greatly influenced his decision to support Nana Konadu’s bid to become the flagbearer for 2012 polls.

‘The NDC want an assured first round first round victory in the 2012 elections and I am highly convinced Nana Konadu is the right person to ensure that,’ Mr. Adams said.

‘I cannot guarantee President Mills ensuring first round victory for the NDC in the 2012 elections.

He stressed the need for the NDC delegates to vote for Nana Konadu at the Sunyani Congress.

Mr. Adams, who doubles as spokesperson for the Rawlingses, cautioned the party’s delegates against re-electing President Mills as flagbearer for the 2012 elections, which is very dicey.

According to him, if the delegates elect President Mills and he fails to win first round victory for the party then the NDC would be heading towards doom.

He noted that if the election goes into the second round the probability of the other political parties supporting the NPP to win the polls would be very great.

The NDC, he noted, won first round victory in general elections way back in 1996 with former President Rawlings as their candidate ‘and we need to replicate this great feat in 2012.

He said the party could achieve this memorable feat in the coming polls by selecting a personality who has the capabilities to ensure first round victory.

‘We need first round victory and is Nana Konadu, who can ensure that,’ Mr. Adams reiterated.

Mr. Adams described the NDC Founder, former President Rawlings as a visionary person whose political judgments are mostly correct.

According to him, Mr. Rawlings sees from afar before the rest of the party, citing Mr. Rawlings’ condemnation of the Mills administration for allowing New Patriotic Party (NPP) DCEs to stay in office for some months to buttress his point.

‘Mr. Rawlings questioned the retention of NPP DCE’s in office by the government and now everybody in the party has admitted that it was a mistake on our part,’ he noted.
