The 15 count criminal trial involving Ensa Badjie, former Inspector Geral of Police and first accused person, and Ali Ceesay, former Chief Superintendent of Prison and second accused person, did not proceed before Justice Joseph Enwa Ikpala of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul on the 30th of May 2011, due to failure of the appearance of the defense counsel, Barrister Borry S. Touray.
When the case was announced by the court clerk, both accused persons were seen in the court room waiting to proceed with their case. The Director of Public Prosecution Mikailu Abdulahi appeared for the State, while the two accused were not represented by any counsel when the case was first announced.
The case was then down for a couple of minutes.
When the case was announced for the second time following the resumption of the court, both the prosecution and defence counsels were in court but the trial Judge, Justice Ikpala, decided to adjourn the case.
The first accused person Ensa Badjie is still under cross examination by the Director of Public Prosecution.
Hearing on the case continues.
