MAFIGA and Misufini primary schools have put themselves in better position to excel in the ongoing Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Primary Schools League in Morogoro after commanding impressive wins in their latest matches played at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) venue.

TCA has organized the league, which started in April, with a view to promoting the sport among local youth and identifying talents for national junior teams of different age categories.

The two schools, which have fielded two teams apiece in either category, have proved to be dominant forces in both boys and girls categories and will possibly be within reach of silverware should they maintain their current form.

Mafiga’s latest exploits have seen them power past Saba Saba and Mwere, whilst conceding only one defeat at the hands of Mazimbu. Misufini youngsters tormented Msamvu, Mji Mkuu and Kiwanja cha Ndege respectively.

Mafiga A’s encounter with Saba Saba A in the boys’ category saw the former record a three-wicket win in a game whose results were largely contributed by the losers’ below par displays.

Saba Saba won the toss, opted to bat first and posted paltry 42 runs, losing all wickets in 17.1 overs, in an innings that witnessed Celestine Donalty finish as the highest scorer of runs with just four.

Mafiga A wicket takers were Frank John and Erick Ally with three wickets apiece in their respective four overs’ bowling spells, as one Baraka and Meshack Michael had two wickets apiece.

Mafiga A, in response, did not have much trouble chasing the target as they did so for the loss of seven wickets in mere 9.4 overs to wrap up the win in the shortest time possible. Ally and Abdul Kassim scored four runs apiece in their respective batting spells as the side batted confidently, with their opponents’ bowling woes aiding the chase.

Misufini A boys were equally impressive in their match against Mji Mkuu, in which, they recorded a nine-wicket rout of the latter. Mji Mkuu opted to start batting after winning the toss and went on to score 36 runs losing all wickets in 13 overs while Misufini, in response, reached the target for the loss of one wicket in just 8.1 overs.

Mafiga A girls beat Mwere A by 11 runs in another encouraging all round displays, in which the winners batted first and scored 55 runs while the losers, on reply, failed to reach the target as they were all out after 44 runs in 13.5 overs.
