Khartoum — The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has denied news reports published by some newspapers on Sudan and Egypt hinting to take strict measures against the Nile Basin countries who signed the controversial Cooperation Framework Agreement in Uganda last week.
The ministry indicated that the decisions which were taken by the meeting between the Minister of Irrigation, Engineer Kamal Ali Mohamed and his Egeyptian counterpart, Dr. Mohamed Nasr-Eddin Allam, were published in press statement distributed to the mass media.
The ministry said that the statement included three main points represented in that Sudan and Egypt will not sign the Cooperation Framework Agreement as it does not include guarantees for water security and uses and rights concerning the two countries, the signing of the five Nile Basin Countries will suspend the Nile Water Basin Initiative in addition to that Sudan and Egypt will continue working for the unity of the Nile Water Basin countries.
