A member of the St. Kizito Catholic Church in Nima, a suburb of Accra, who is said to be gifted and thus offers prayers and counselling in his residence, has been arrested for allegedly coercing a church member to commit abortion.
ACP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, the Nima Divisional Police Commander, told Citi News the self-acclaimed Pastor, popularly known in the area as Pastor Emmanuel, is said to have impregnated the deceased, Felicia Chipie, and with the help of some friends provided her with drugs to abort it.
He said the abortion attempt failed, leading to the victim’s death and the subsequent arrest of the three.
“They said he is a Pastor and the deceased was one of his members. According to the allegation, he impregnated the lady and wanted to carry out the abortion.
“The drugs he used didn’t work so somebody else directed him to this quack Doctor. They did it but later the lady died. So the one who gave the drug, the one who is the quack doctor and the Pastor have been arrested and are being put before Court”.
A sister of the deceased, Mercy Chipie told Citi News her family will not give up on the case until the ‘Pastor’ is jailed to serve as a deterrent to other fake pastors who are sexually abusing and defrauding unsuspecting church members.
“The family is very sad about the incident and I don’t think the Pastor’s family can use money to settle this case. The most annoying part is that, when my sister died, none of them even came to speak to us. They didn’t even come for the funeral and this shows that they don’t care about what has happened. All they care about is their son who is involved in all this. When you get to the Police station for instance, you will notice that the man’s family members are talking to the police officers and I don’t know what they are up to” she said.
In recent times, several cases have been reported involving self-acclaimed Ministers of the Gospel engaging in immoral and nefarious deeds such as using innocent members to satisfy their appetite and lust for sex, fame and riches.
Some have been jailed whiles others are awaiting possible conviction.
