Menongue — The director of culture in Kuando Kubango, Luís Paulo Vissunju, highlighted the bravery of former Angolan People’s Liberation Armed Forces (FAPLA) during the battle of Kuito Kuanavale, which led to the independence of Namibia and the end of apartheid regime in South Africa.
The historian stressed the deed on Monday in Menongue city, while presenting a panel on “The meaning of May 25, Africa Day, led by soldiers of the Angolan Army Southern Region 5th Division (FAA), act which marked the end of activities related to the ephemerid.
“I would like to recognise the bravery, abnegation, courage, willingness and intransigence of fighters in defence of a just cause, such as great conquest of Kuito Kuanavale battle”, he stressed.
According to Luís Paulo Vissunju, this battle transformed geo-politic system of Southern African region, thus making possible for the independence of Namibia, eradication of apartheid, in South Africa, and the liberation of ANC historic leader, Nelson Mandela, among others.
