    Urr — A 24-year-old man from Mankamang Kunda in Jimara District, Upper River Region (URR) has been arrested for alleged murder.

    Essa Jawo is alleged to have killed one Abubacarr Baldeh, a 37-year-old man from the same village. According to reports, the accused, on the 28th May 2011 at 10.00pm, went to the deceased’s compound where he met him lying under the veranda with his family and stabbed him on the stomach with a kniffe.

    Confirming the story to Daily Observer, Ebrima Cham, URR commissioner of Police said the accused fled after the incident, but was apprehended near the border by the villagers.

    Cham said sources from the village intimated to him that the accused attempted to take his own life with a poisonous substance. He added that the accused was taken to the Basse health centre where he was admitted but will be arraigned before the court charged with murder.

    The Police commissionner said the deceased has been taken to RVTH for postmortem, while the case is being investigated. He finally urged people to be law abiding and settle their differences through dialogue and not violence.
