The management of the Brikama Area Council (BAC) has paid the sum of D500, 000 in outstanding arrears of water and electricity bills to the National Water and Electricity Company (Nawec).
The money was paid through a cheque which was presented to Nawec Monday at the Council grounds in Brikama.
Presenting the cheque, the chairman of BAC, Sunkary Badjie reiterated his Council’s commitment to the provision of fundamental services to communities of the West Cost Region. He also called on taxpayers to be paying their dues regularly so as to enable the Council deliver basic services. Badjie also emphasised the need for the judicious use of water and electricity by the people.
On his part, the chief executive officer of BAC, Momodou Jallow also stated the need for a regular and on time payment of water and electricity dues by the people to BAC. He also assured them of the Council’s resolve to always provide them with basic services.
It would be recalled that in 2009, the chairman of BAC, Sunkary Badjie announced that the Council owed Nawec D29 million, and promised that they would be paying a monthly installment of D250, 000 towards settlement of the arrears.
