Over three hundred NDC youth from all parts of the country besieged the Castle, Osu on Tuesday May 31, 2011 to plead with President Mills to initiate moves to bring about a thawing of the cold relation between the NDC’s current leader and the party’s founder, Former President Jerry John Rawlings. The youth, who wore party T- shirts with the inscription “NDC Unity Now”, said the continued bad blood between the two leading men of the party was dividing the party and hurting its chances in the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections. The group fell to their knees in unison immediately they saw the president and began passionately beseeching Prof Mills to let bygones be bygones.

The price of cement has gone up in the Ho Municipality from GH¢12.00 to GH¢15.00. On Tuesday, the commodity was available in only one store, Donwill, which received a limited supply and sold a bag for GHC15.00.

Many customers who rushed there to buy the commodity retreated
complaining about the price hike. Mr John Mokli, a contractor in Hohoe, told the GNA that the commodity had been in short supply in the Municipality since the beginning of May.

He said that the limited quantity that been supplied were often
sold at GHC14.00 per bag. The situation is the same at Aflao. Mr James John, Commercial Manager of Diamond Cement Limited at Aflao, attributed the shortage to the closure of the Lome Port in Togo for renovation.

He said the factory could, therefore, not get its supply of
clinker through the Lome Port but through the Tema and Takoradi Ports
in Ghana, a situation which was affecting the company’s production
level greatly.

He, however, assured that the situation would return to normal in
a month’s time when the renovation works at the Lome Port were
scheduled to be completed.
