Manchester United target Ashley Young to discuss Aston Villa future with chairman & Gerard Houllier after England’s clash with Switzerland

Ashley Young has admitted that he will discuss his Aston Villa future after England‘s Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, refused to confirm whether he would be leaving Villa Park in the summer and insisted that he will commence talks with chairman Randy Lerner and boss Gerard Houllier after the weekend’s clash at Wembley.

“I’ve said that I’ll speak to the manager and chairman at the end of the season and obviously I’ve got to concentrate on this game and we’ll see what happens after this game,” he told reporters.

Regarding Houllier and his position at the club, Young refused to speculate on the Frenchman’s future although he did admit that he would like the former Liverpool manager to remain in charge.

“I’ve not heard anything come out of the club officially so I’m not too sure what’s been going on and I‘m away with England and that’s what I’m concentrating on,” he added.

“I’ve got a massive game on Saturday and that’s all my thoughts are. Of course I would like Houllier to stay on as manager. He’s done great since he come in obviously it’s been a difficult season for us but hopefully fingers crossed everything’s going to get sorted, hopefully he comes back to full health.

“I’m away with England now and that’s what I want to concentrate on.”

England can, if only temporarily, move three points ahead of second-placed Montenegro in Euro 2012 qualifying Group G with a win against the Swiss and Young admits he is a fan of the 4-3-3 system successfully deployed by boss Fabio Capello in the victory over Wales in March.

“I think it’s worked really well,” he said. “The changing between the midfielders and the front three was excellent and especially against Wales I think it worked really well, especially in the first half, the way we changed positions and everybody knew their jobs.

“I think it‘s a system that does have a lot of pluses to it – to rotate in whichever way and whatever formation the manager decides to go with the players will be able to do well.”

Wayne Rooney misses out for the Three Lions through suspension, although Young is confident Capello’s side will be able to cope with his absence, despite the fact he is expecting a tough test against Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” Young continued.

“We had a tough game against them away. It’s not going to be easy. We have to concentrate on ourselves. Every player is up for the challenge and wants to go clear at the top of the table.

“Wazza’s a great loss but we’ve got a lot of players in the squad to come in and play in his spot and the boys are raring to go and get the opportunity to get in the team.

“There are a lot of players fighting for positions. We always have a good week before the game, preparing in the right way.”
