Michael Carrick was absent from England training on Tuesday ahead of the team’s Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland on Saturday.

The midfielder was recalled into the squad after a strong finish to the domestic season and missed the session this morning at Arsenal’s London Colney complex due to a knock he picked up while playing in the Champions League final on Saturday.

The news comes after Jermain Defoe and David Stockdale were ruled out last week, with Robert Green replacing the injured keeper to give England boss Fabio Capello a 24-man squad to work with.

In Defoe’s absence, the Three Lions coach will be looking to keep first choice striker Darren Bent out of danger and will also be keeping a close eye on Bobby Zamora and Peter Crouch, who did not compete in their respective teams’ final games of the season.

England need to win to remain in control of the group and keep their qualification fate in their own hands.

The Three Lions are joint top of Group G with 10 points from four games – the same as Montenegro, who entertain Bulgaria on Saturday night.

Capello is also expected to have a sit-down meeting with ex-captain Rio Ferdinand to explain the reasons for John Terry’s reinstatement.
