Zimbabwe: Pacesetters Come Face-to-Face

Reigning premiership champions and current log leaders Motor Action will come face-to-face with second placed Highlanders in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Barbourfields this afternoon.

Both clubs have been in a no-nonsense mood picking up points at will to take the early lead.

Highlanders will welcome back their top marksman Njabulo “Tshiki” Ncube who was red-carded in the 2-1 defeat to Blue Ribbon at Gwanzura.

Last season Bosso almost spoiled the party for Bulls as they held them to a goalless draw in Harare at a time when the Mighty Bulls needed the three points to beat DeMbare to the championship. Bulls were lucky to win it on superior goals difference.

The Mighty Bulls are leading the 16-club log table with 21 points from 10 matches after registering six wins, three draws before losing once.

Highlanders are on 20 points from the same number of matches, winning the same number of matches. Bosso drew twice and lost twice to Monomotapa and Blue Ribbon.

Bosso will capitalise on home advantage in their bid to topple Mighty Bulls from the top to lead the table for the second time again after they emerged log leaders from the first matches of the league. They were later dislodged by Bulls after losing to Monomotapa.

Chicken Inn will travel to Hwange for a date with the coal miners, who are still bubbling with confidence after beating CAPS United on Africa Day.

FC Platinum will be looking forward to rediscovering their winning formula when they host Zimbabwe Saints at Maglass. The cash-rich Platinum miners are looking forward to a speedy recovery of their talisman Beki Ncube and Charles Sibanda who played a few minutes in their last match in Harare due to a knock. Both Sibanda and Nyoni had picked up injuries in their previous matches but Sibanda passed a late fitness test on Wednesday morning while Ncube needed time to recover.

ALL NOT WELL IN DEMBARE’S CAMP

DeMbare are perched on ninth position winning only three games, with four draws and three losses. They have managed to score eight goals and conceded five, an indication that something is wrong in their camp.

Action will continue on Monday with Gunners taking on Shabanie Mine in a match dubbed Clash of the Bottom Teams. Gunners are on second from bottom while Shabanie are third from bottom.

In a Harare derby, Dynamos will host their tricky customer Shooting Stars at Rufaro.

The match might have a bearing on head coach Lloyd Mutasa’ future at the Glamour Boys as supporters have since lost faith in their former talisman.
