Daniel Agger has insisted he will be back stronger than ever before for Liverpool after making only 21 appearances for the club this season in the Premier League.

The Denmark defender sustained a knock to the tendon behind his knee during the 2-1 defeat at West Brom on April 2, which meant he had to miss most of the club’s matches towards the end of the season.

“I am definitely confident I can come back stronger,” Agger told the club’s official website.

“The injury is coming along okay. It’s been really hard the last few weeks, especially when I was on crutches, in a brace and couldn’t move.”

He added: “I know I have a lot more to give to this club if I can keep fit.”

Injury has been a recurring problem for Agger since his arrival in 2006 from Brondby, and the defender is making sure that this time he is 100 per cent ready for a return to action.

“That’s been the problem the last few times I have been injured – I’ve been in a rush to get back. I’d come back early but would get a new injury,” he said.

“It’s really good for me now that I have all the way until pre-season to get ready.”
