A release signed by the spokesperson for the organisation, Mr Yinka Odumakin, stated that the Federal Government, by law, had no powers to investigate any disturbance outside the Federal Capital Territory, as pronounced by the Supreme Court in Fawehinmi vs Babangida, and that the 22-man panel set up by the president was just   a hollow ritual meant to just play politics with a serious national tragedy. It stated that the truth  that had been pointed out was  that those who wilfully violated the rights of the people to freely choose their leaders were vicariously liable for the outrage of the mob

Nairobi — The dearth of talent in indoor sports, especially tennis, raises questions as to where Kenya swerved off the road.

We are no longer assured of participation in the Fed and Davis cups or the All Africa Games, the most important tournaments on the continent in regard to development of tennis.

Even qualification to regional tournaments is limited and officials have no explanation for this.

The country can no longer depend on tennis to supplement its medals prospects at top international sports championships.

Certainly, something is wrong with the administration and management of the sport and the sooner this is checked, the better for the thousands of aspiring players.

What explanation can there be when elite players based overseas decide to ignore a call to represent the country at the All Africa Games in September?

But again, these players went abroad to boost their careers because there are no tournaments to keep them busy at home, with the Kenya Lawn Tennis Association not appearing to be motivated to reverse the trend.

Most competitions are organised by private clubs and corporate entities and focus on junior players, who soon realise that they have to look elsewhere for matches or pick a different discipline when they become seniors.
