Very often when students who have completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) return home while awaiting their results, they have so much idle time that sometimes they engage in a number of bad acts.

Since they have to be at home for a very long time some of them are pressured by their friends to indulge in various vices such as drinking smoking and engaging in premarital sex.

Consequently, when it is time for them to go back to school, a number girls, especially find themselves pregnant so returning to school becomes a problem. Others also use their parents’ cars without permission and get involved in accidents that may maim them or even cause their death.

This long wait has become part of the lives of all SHS and JHS students so it is important for every student to know how to spend that time wisely so you don’t have problems during that period.

Here’s how to do it :
    Vacation classes
You can attend vacation classes and learn about courses or subjects you will offer at the next level of your education. This will make things easier for you when you go back to school.

    Visit the library
If you feel bored at home you can visit a library in your community or ask your parents to take you to a library in town so that you can read to broaden your horizon. You can also exchange your story books with your friends so you can have a wide variety of books to read.

    Learn something new
As a student, you should not be limited to your area of study alone. You can explore other areas so that you learn a little bit of everything apart from your main course. You can decide to learn a hobby, such as how to sew, cook, tie and dye making, bead making among others. This will help you learn a vocation in addition to your course.

You can also decide to learn about a new course altogether. For instance if you are a science student you can learn a little bit of accounting or economics to enable you to gain some knowledge about other subjects.

    Be a volunteer
It would also be a very bright idea if you decided to help deprived children in your community. You could teach these children or go to a nearby school to teach free of charge. This would help you gain experience as well as make you be of service to your community. If you are also sure of what you want to do in future you can visit the company in that field and ask to know what the job entails, they may be glad to help.

    Vacation employment:
You also can seek a vacation employment in an organisation either in your neighbourhood or any other which would be willing to take you on for a while. Apart from you gaining experience you would also earn money which you could use to buy some goodies for yourself as well as some educational needs when you are to go back to school.

If your parents are self-employed helping them would be very useful so that whenever they have other errands to run you could be useful helping out at their workplace.

All these can make your vacation meaningful and keep you out of trouble.
