Nigel Reo-Coker and Robert Pires are the stand out names from a list of Aston Villa players that have released by the club.

A total of 10 players have been let go by the Villans, with John Carew and Moustapha Salifou also failing to win new contracts at Villa Park.

Reo-Coker, a former England under-21 captain, spent four years at the club following his move from West Ham United and was very much a first-team regular in his inaugural season.

However, the midfielder fell out of contention in recent seasons although he did make several starts towards the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Norwegian striker Carew, who finished his first three campaigns as top goalscorer for the club, was allowed to join Stoke City on loan in January and has not been offered a new deal.

Pires made most of his appearances as a substitute and recently expressed his unhappiness with the apparent lack of respect the club had shown him.

Fellow midfielder Salifou will be released after four years at the club and even though the Togo international failed to see much first-team action, the 27-year-old became somewhat of a cult figure at Villa Park, while Isaiah Osbourne will also be heading out.

Youngsters Harry Forrester, Arsenio Halfhuid, Durrell Berry, Ellis Deeney and Calum Flanagan have also been released.
