Kalonzo Implores AU Over Somalia

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday challenged members of the African Union to help restore peace in member countries torn by war.

Singling out Somalia, Kalonzo said it is the union’s duty to ensure such countries have peace.

“We cannot rest while some of our brothers and sisters still crave for peace, notably the people of Somalia. Kenya supports all efforts towards the search for lasting peace in such regions,” Kalonzo said.

The Vice President was addressed participants during the 48th African Day Celebrations in Nairobi.

He lauded the Burundi government for sending peace keepers and standing with the people of Somalia and called on other African countries to emulate it to restore peace and tranquility in the Horn of African state.

The Vice President urged AU to fast track the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as one of way of tackling the many challenges that bedevil the continent.
